Applied Physics

The Physics Department at Indiana University Bloomington offers a Bachelor of Science degree program in Applied Physics that prepares students for high-tech industry jobs.

An article on the Applied Physics program was featured in the Winter 2008 edition of the The College Magazine.

Key Program Features:

  • Specialized Curriculum: The curriculum includes an instrumentation laboratory course designed to teach students how to use industry-standard tools.

In Spring 2009 we will again offer:
    P314 Introduction to Medical Physics.

  • Paid Internships: Students gain valuable real-world experience through internships in industry or national laboratories.

Applied Physics student Paul Rumbach worked on LENS with Prof. Paul Sokol.

“Inside this large metal vacuum vessel is a six kilowatt copper heating block on top of a Beryllium target simulating the power of a 13 MeV proton beam. This setup was created to test the effectiveness of a closed circuit water cooling system that will later be used to cool Beryllium targets for the LENS project at IUCF. Here I am reading the pressure on one of the water hoses.”
